Currently - The July 2015 Edition

I've seen these kind of posts pop up on other people's blogs and I've always enjoyed them. It's a neat way to get a quick peek into people's lives … plus, there's also the added benefit of new book/TV/movie/music recommendations to look into. So, without further ado, here's what I'm currently writing, reading, watching and hearing …

writing:

My novel is coming along, slowly but surely. I'm also busy working on a short story about a little boy with distorted vision who idolizes Vincent van Gogh. (I've also been eating lots of gelato while I work because it's crazy hot around here!)

reading:

The Afterlife of Stars by Joseph Kertes … I saw this on the shelf at my local bookstore and picked it up. It's historical fiction about a little boy and his brother fleeing Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. It's very poetic and the prose is gripping, but something about the story just feels off. I'm only a third of the way through so it's too soon to cast judgement - hopefully it all comes together in the end.

watching:

I don't watch much TV and when I do it's usually Jeopardy (yes, I'm that cool) or Netflix movies that my husband picks out. That said, I've fallen head over heels in love with ABC's new series, The Astronaut Wives Club. It has everything one could possibly want in a TV show … history, romance, comedy, suspense. The acting is superb and I love how it portrays the friendship between the women and the complexities of their marriages. Also, 1950s fashion? Sign me up! Side Note: the series is based on a book by the same name, which I found on clearance at Chapters. I'll be reading it in the fall, once Season One has ended.

hearing:

This song, on repeat. It's pretty much the perfect summer anthem.
