If I could offer just one piece of advice to expectant parents, it would be this: hire a professional photographer to come to your home and take pictures of you and your newborn. Okay, okay ... there's a lot of other advice I would dispense as well, but seriously - trust me on the photos. Yes, it's expensive. It's worth the money. Yes, you're sleep deprived and exhausted and your home is a mess. You will not regret welcoming a stranger into your chaos. Those first few weeks at home with your newborn are a whirlwind of emotion and it's all a blur. You'll be so happy to have candid family photos to look back on.
