Earlier this week, I opened a Scrivener document and began jotting down ideas for a new novel.
Gosh, it feels good to say that out loud!
We're fortunate to live near the woods. My daughter and I love to explore all of the trails behind our house and inspiration for a novel began to percolate during one of our daily walks. I tried to push the idea out of my mind - I mean, it's SO different from everything else I've written thus far - but try as I might, I couldn't seem to shake it off. Every time we strolled down the moss-covered path, another piece of the story would reveal itself to me and before I knew it I was completely smitten.
I don't want to share too much because this is all still very much in the planning/preliminary plotting stage and everything is subject to change ... but, basically, it's going to be an upper middle grade novel about climate change, pipelines and deforestation. Also, bees and colony collapse disorder. Oh, and fairies.
I stopped by the library on Wednesday to pick up a few non-fiction books to begin necessary research and was positively giddy the whole way home! I'm so excited about this one, you guys. I'm so glad this story picked me.
If you're wondering this means for my historical fiction novel, fear not! I haven't abandoned 1920s-1930s Germany and still plan to have that manuscript done by the end of May. But April is Camp NaNoWriMo (a scaled down version of November's National Novel Writing Month) and I thought it would be fun to try and get a *very* rough first draft of this middle grade novel done next month. I'll still be tinkering away on my historical fiction novel, but will be focusing on this middle grade one for most of April. I can't wait to get started xx
